Let's hope the Governor declines clemency to this scumbag.
My reason for supporting the death penalty? A murderer has less of a right to live than his victim and already presents a danger while incarcerated for life. They have nothing to lose when the most they can get is Life in prison without parole.

Execution set for man convicted of killing 4 kids

Published June 04, 2012

Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. –  The sister of a man set to be executed Tuesday said she will ask the governor to spare her brother's life, even though he was convicted of murdering two of her children and two of her nephews and trying to kill her.

Henry Curtis Jackson Jr. killed his two nieces and two nephews, ages 2 to 5, when he went to his mother's home in Leflore County looking for money from a safe on Nov. 1, 1990, according to the court record.

His mother was at church that day, but Jackson's adult sister, Regina Jackson, was there with her two daughters and four nieces and nephews. Her two daughters were killed in the attack.

Regina Jackson told The Associated Press that she planned to meet with Gov. Phil Bryant on Monday and plead for her brother's life.

"Over the years, I've done forgave Curtis  :o . If they do that (execution), it's only going to hurt more. If they kill him, they're doing the same thing that he did. The dying is going to have to stop somewhere," she said.

Curtis Jackson's attorney, Robert Davis Jr. of Tupelo, filed a clemency request with Bryant's office last week.

Bryant's spokesman, Mick Bullock said Monday that, Bryant "is reviewing the facts associated with this case and has no further comment at this time."

Bryant, a Republican and former deputy sheriff, has not granted clemency to a condemned inmate since taking
office in January.   :D :P :-\ ;D

Jackson, 47, has appealed the case over the years but hasn't been successful in the past. He has said he doesn't remember stabbing the children, but testimony from his trial describes a horrific scene.

He cut the phone line before going in the house, according to the court record. Once inside, he demanded money and attacked his sister.

One of the children tried to help, but he stabbed her too. At some point, Regina Jackson tried to fight him off with an iron rod, but he grabbed one of the children and used her as a shield.

Regina Jackson testified at trial that she was in and out of consciousness after being tied up and stabbed in the neck, but she could hear her brother dragging a safe down a hall. The noise woke up 5-year-old Dominique, one of her daughters.

"Regina testified that Jackson called Dominique to him, told her that he loved her, stabbed her, and tossed her body to the floor," according to the court record. "Jackson returned to Regina, stabbing her in the neck and twisting the knife, at which point she pretended to be dead until she heard him leave."

Jackson turned himself in to the West Point Police Department and allegedly confessed to some details. He was convicted and sentenced to death on four counts of capital murder after a trial in September 1991. The trial was held in Copiah County after Jackson's defense attorney requested a change of venue.

His mother, Martha Jackson, said Monday that she has forgiven her son and plans to visit him before the execution.

"If I don't forgive him, God don't forgive me," she said.

Martha Jackson said she's not sure if she'll watch the lethal injection, scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

JACKSON, Miss. — A death row inmate who's scheduled to be executed Tuesday is asking Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant for clemency.
Henry Curtis Jackson was convicted in 1991 of killing his two nieces and two nephews.

Jackson's attorney, Robert Davis Jr. of Tupelo, filed a clemency request Friday. Davis said 47-year-old Jackson would remain in prison if he's not executed.

"Life without parole is our best hope," Davis said.

Davis said he has filed appeals on Jackson's behalf up to the U.S. Supreme Court, and is unlikely to file a new appeal at this time.

The killings happened on Nov. 1, 1990, in Leflore County in Jackson's mother's home. His mother was attending church at the time. Jackson was also found guilty of stabbing two other relatives, both of whom survived.

Jackson, who was 26 at the time of the deaths, turned himself in to the West Point Police Department on Nov. 5, 1990. He was convicted in September 1991 of four counts of capital murder for killing the children, who ranged in age from 2 to 5 years old.

Republican Bryant has not granted clemency requests to previous inmates, though his spokesman, Mick Bullock, said Bryant is reviewing Jackson's case.

According to what I can find on Clemency Information for Mississippi, one of the suggestions in requesting clemency is: "In writing your personal statement, keep in mind that the Parole Board/Governor will not be retrying you for the offense. Although you may feel the need to explain the facts of the crime from your perspective, avoid trying to make excessive excuses for your crime and arguing away your guilt. However you feel about the crime, you have already been found guilty. The Parole Board/Governor is probably more interested in seeing your remorse for the crime, and your understanding of its effects on the victim and society, than anything else."

I haven't read anything...anywhere...that even hints that this inmate is thinking of anything other than saving his own arse.

This POS hasn't ever shown remorse for his crime that I've read. He claims he doesn't remember...okay, whatever, evidence and testimony has proven YOU did the crime, YOU will pay the price...stop whining and man up. Your actions cost the lives of 4 children not to mention what the other victims have endured over the years. They may have forgiven you but you still have to serve your sentence.  SMH It's like saying "Oh I'm sorry! It wasn't me! It was the drugs that made me do it! It was the victim's fault because they dressed oohhh soooo sexy! Freaking take responsibility for your actions!

GGR, you're right about the Waynes---and Lee is right up there, too! In fact, if a person's middle name is Wayne or Lee, they might as well go ahead and turn themselves in!

But not if your first name is Lee...right ... ;)

Lee

Aileen Wournos' nickname was Lee....

I think you're safe :)  For some reason, having Lee as the middle name seems to be the stresser that leads to psychotic behavior :)

Victims and family of death row inmate want execution halted

By Roslyn Anderson

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -

One day before Mississippi death row inmate Henry Curtis Jackson's scheduled execution, his victims, who are also his relatives, met with the governor and asked that his life be spared.

In 1991, Jackson was convicted of capital murder in the stabbing deaths of his sisters' children, two nieces and two nephews.

The children were Shunterica Lonnett Jackson, Dominique Devro Jackson, Antonio Terrell Jackson and Andrew Odutola Kuyoro, Jr.

The mothers of the children are asking that his execution be halted.

"It's highly unusual. It's actually a compelling story of forgiveness and mercy," said Jackson family attorney Cliff Johnson.

The death row inmate's sisters, Regina Jackson, who was also stabbed five times, and Glendale Kyoto and husband Andrew, have written letters to Governor Phil Bryant.

Attorney Johnson and the family met with the governor Monday.

"Here we have a family that says 'Don't kill for us'. It's not gonna bring our children back. It's only going to cause us more pain, and it's gonna make us victims again," added Johnson.

The 1991 trial was held in Copiah County due to a change of venue.

Testimony from the proceedings stated that the now 47-year-old confessed to Leflore County authorities that he went to his mother's Greenwood home and demanded money from her safe.

When his sister Regina didn't open the safe, investigators said he attacked the family with a knife then fled.

Jackson later surrendered to law officers in West Point after abandoning his car in Eupora.

A jury found him guilty of four counts of capital murder, three counts of aggravated assault and burglary charges.

His sisters have since visited him in prison, developed a relationship and don't want him to die.

"That wasn't easy. That didn't come automatically. They were angry. They were furious. They were hurt, and it's a story of healing over time," added the family attorney.

Johnson said family members will be at Parchman Tuesday and hopes the governor will grant clemency despite recent controversy over pardons.

"Do we honor the wishes of the victims' families in every case even when the family seeks mercy? Or do we only hear those voices when the family seeks vengeance," asked Johnson.

"Governor Bryant did meet with family members today and is reviewing the facts associated with this case and has no further comment at this time," said spokesman Mick Bullock.

Henry Curtis Jackson is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection Tuesday at six p.m.

Mississippi inmate talkative as scheduled execution nears

Jackson convicted of killing 4 kids

UPDATED 2:49 PM CDT Jun 05, 2012

JACKSON, Miss. - On the day of his scheduled execution, officials said Henry "Curtis" Jackson Jr. was visiting with relatives, including one of the sisters whose children he stabbed to death in 1990.

Barring a reprieve from the governor, Jackson will be executed about 6 p.m. CDT for the deaths of two nieces and two nephews. They were killed during a rampage in which Jackson allegedly was trying to steal his mother's safe.

The children's mothers have asked Gov. Phil Bryant to spare their brother's life. Bryant hasn't announced his decision.

Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps said Jackson admitted to the crime and was talkative and writing letters after visiting with family.

Epps said Jackson didn't request a specific last meal.

Mississippi man to be executed for killing four children

By Emily Le Coz

TUPELO, Mississippi | Tue Jun 5, 2012 4:34pm EDT

(Reuters) - Mississippi is scheduled to execute a man on Tuesday for the 1990 murders of four of his young nieces and nephews, and family members said their pleas for a reprieve have not swayed the state's governor.

Henry Curtis Jackson Jr, 47, fatally stabbed two nieces and two nephews - aged 2 to 5 years - while he searched for money to steal from a safe kept in his mother's home near Greenwood, authorities said.

Regina Jackson - his sister and the mother of two of his victims - said she and other family members asked Mississippi's Republican Governor Phil Bryant on Monday to halt the execution.

But she said the governor had already made up his mind to let the lethal injection proceed and informed the family of his decision Tuesday morning.

"We went before the governor to plead for my brother's life," Regina Jackson said. "They're doing the same thing he did. Executing him won't bring closure. It will bring more pain on my family."

"I forgave my brother. I love my brother," she said. "God says we got to forgive in order for Him to forgive us."

The governor's office said a meeting with the death row inmate's family took place, but a spokeswoman could not immediately confirm Bryant's decision on Tuesday.

In Mississippi, the governor has the sole authority to grant clemency and also can commute death sentences to life in prison.

Jackson, called "Curtis" by his family, is to be put to death by lethal injection at 6 p.m. CDT (2300 GMT) at the Mississippi State Penitentiary in Parchman. He would be the fourth person executed this year in the state and the 19th person executed in the nation.

"We're under no illusions that Curtis is going to be set free or anything, other than life without parole. The only thing we're asking for is his life," said Jackson's attorney, Robert "Chip" Davis.

Jackson fled after the murders, prompting an extensive manhunt that ended when he turned himself in to police four days later. He admitted to the crimes but said he had no specific memory of stabbing the children, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Two other relatives survived after being stabbed in the November 1, 1990, attack. Regina Jackson said she was stabbed 15 times.

Curtis Jackson was convicted in 1991 of four counts of capital murder, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of armed robbery.

Another convicted killer, Jan Michael Brawner, is scheduled to be put to death in Mississippi on June 12.
