Well, my Dad passed away on May 20, 2012 at ~ 0800 hrs.  I received a call from Mom on Friday afternoon informing me that Hospice said that he had 36 hours or less left so that I should head on down.  We packed up the family and left early the next morning and got to my Mom's by about 1815 hrs.  He was in pretty bad shape; rapid, gasping breaths and no response verbally or by moving.  He was moving his eyes around though and you could kinda tell when I got there that he knew that the last of the family had arrived.

By 0700 the next morning, his breathing had shallowed out and by 0800, it just kinda got shallower and shallower until it was no longer there. We had visitation on Tuesday and services on Wednesday.  We helped Mom pick a gravestone and stayed with her until Saturday night when that tropical storm looked like it was heading and and we had to leave.  Pretty much all of the other arrangements were made last fall when Hospice was initially called.

Well, he is at peace and suffering no longer.  He went quietly and serenely and he is at peace with the Lord.  Mom is also doing very well, so that is a good thing.

Sorry to hear that ICE. A very difficult time but sounds like you have a supportive family! As you say your father no longer needs to suffer. So keep strong with your family!

Ice, sorry to hear about the loss of your father.  I am glad you were able to be with him at the end, and to be there to comfort your mother. :-* :-*

So far, this seems like a year where many of us are destined to lose some of our loved ones
" Closure? Closure is a misused word in the English language.  There is no such thing as closure for the family of a murder victim.  There will never be any closure for the death of our loved ones until we are dead ourselves.  The families have a lifetime sentence of anguish and sadness."
Susan Levy
