On 04/11/2001, in Dallas, Texas, Hernandez struck an 11 month old Hispanic male and his sister in the head with a flashlight. The children had been left in the care of Hernandez when the incident took place. The sister survived her injuries, but the 11 month old did not.

A convicted child sex offender was executed Wednesday for the beating death of a 10-month-old boy he was baby-sitting at a home in Dallas.

Jesse Joe Hernandez smiled and laughed at times before receiving a lethal injection for the slaying of Karlos Borja 11 years ago.

"God bless everybody. Continue to walk with God," the 47-year-old Hernandez said. Moments later, he shouted "Go Cowboys!" in honor of his favorite football team.

As the drugs took effect, the condemned man repeated his appreciation for those he knew who had gathered to witness the execution. "Love y'all, man," Hernandez said. "... Thank you. I can feel it, taste it. It's not bad."

He took about 10 deep breaths, which grew progressively weaker until he was no longer moving. Ten minutes later, at 6:18 p.m. CDT, he was pronounced dead.

No one related to the slain child attended the execution, the fourth this year in Texas. It was carried out about two hours after the U.S. Supreme Court denied last-ditch appeals for Hernandez.

Ten-month-old Karlos was taken to a Dallas hospital in April 2001 with a skull fracture and bruises to his head, thigh and abdomen. A week later, he was taken off life support and died. His 4-year-old sister had similar beating injuries to her head, ears and eyes but survived.

Hernandez's DNA was found in Karlos' blood on a pillowcase and on the child's clothing. The boy's sister drew stick figures for detectives to help describe her attack.

Hernandez denied beating the children but later told a detective he may have hit the boy with a flashlight. He did not include the flashlight reference in a written confession in which he said he "just exploded" and struck them with the back of his hand.

"They were being very bad by crying a lot for nothing," Hernandez wrote.

Howard Blackmon, the former assistant district attorney in Dallas County who prosecuted Hernandez, recalled seeing photos of the badly bruised boy connected to tubes while in the hospital and his sister's red, bruised forehead.

"I don't think Hernandez admitted to any intent to kill," he said. "He did admit to striking."

Jurors saw those images and also learned that Hernandez had a previous conviction for molesting a child and drug possession, had beat his ex-wife with a baseball bat, burned a girlfriend's child with cigarettes and was found with a shank while locked up in jail.

Court records showed Hernandez and his wife of six years had been living with the two children and their 22-year-old mother about three days in a Dallas house that had no running water. Hernandez and his wife were to watch the children while their mother was working as a waitress.

On April 11, 2001, Hernandez's wife left to run some errands. When she returned he told her the kids were sleeping and not to disturb them. Hours later, after their mother returned from work, the girl complained her head was hurting and the mother took her to a hospital. While they were gone, Hernandez's wife checked on Karlos, discovered his injuries and called paramedics. Police were then notified.

In trying to stop the execution, Hernandez's attorneys unsuccessfully argued that his trial lawyers were deficient because they didn't pursue evidence that the boy was prematurely removed from life support and had toxic levels of the drug pentobarbital in his blood. The same barbiturate is used in the execution process in Texas.

The attorneys also claimed an initial appeals lawyer did not investigate the case beyond the trial record and that failure cost Hernandez his lone opportunity to raise substantive legal claims following his conviction.

Brad Levenson, director of the Texas Office of Capital Writs, said a more thorough investigation could have shown Hernandez wasn't responsible for the child's death.

The Texas attorney general's office opposed any delay, questioning whether the high court even had jurisdiction in the case because constitutional claims weren't raised earlier in state courts.

At least six other condemned Texas inmates have execution dates scheduled for the coming months.

In my opinion he got Off way to easy. As a father of a 1 yr old I would've demanded harsher. Wouldn't have gotten a harsher punishment but wouldve tried. Just makes me sick the way he did that innocent little boy. So what if he was crying. That's what babies do. I'm sure maybe something to eat or a new diaper would've made everything better. But this jack@$$ decided a metal flashlight would make it all better.  >:( >:( >:( >:( just makes me mad thinking about this one.

Perhaps the conversation went like this:

"Hello, United States Supreme Court."

"Yes, I am the attorney for Jesse Hernandez who is being executed tonight in Texas, I need to file a motion for a stay of execution for my client."

"I'm sorry sir, all of the Justices are currently tied up listening to arguments on the taxes, I mean, the penalties involved with Obamacare at the moment and are unavailable."

"Well, I need a stay of execution for this man!!"

"umm...well, I am the Secretary manning the phone bank tonight and have full authorization to handles the incoming calls and I'm going to have to say...NO!  Have a great night!!"

Obamacare is already responsible for the death of at least one person... lol

For those who follow last meals, I just got word from the TDCJ that Hernandez was served that old Texas favorite, chicken fried steak, for his final meal yesterday.

Thank you Ty!  It appears that Texas death row has no set Wednesday special as Rivas had BBQ chicken, Thurmond chicken spaghetti and Hernandex chicken fried steak...although "chicken" seems to be the theme!  ;D ;D ;D

Jesse Joe Hernandez Yells 'Go Cowboys' At Execution: 10 Weirdest Last Words

By Melanie Jones: Subscribe to Melanie's RSS feed

March 29, 2012 1:14 PM EDT

Convicted sex offender and child killer Jesse Joe Hernandez, 47, was executed Wednesday in Texas for the beating death of 10-month-old Karlos Borja.

Hernandez, the fourth prisoner to be executed this year in the state of Texas, was given a lethal injection only hours after a last-ditch attempt at an appeal was made by his lawyers before the U.S. Supreme Court.

But Hernandez is making news less for his grisly death than for what he reportedly said before losing conscious: a shouted tribute to his favorite football team.

"God bless everybody. Continue to walk with God," Hernandez said, before shouting, "Go Cowboys!"

But while Hernandez, who later thanked those present for coming to his execution and told them he could "taste" the effect of the lethal injection, is now making headlines for his unusual last words, the convicted killer is far from the first prisoner on death row to leave a strange, unnerving or downright weird last testament for witnesses to remember them by.

Many condemned prisoners meet their deaths with dignity, regret, resignation or even relief. They continue to delcare their innocence, give reasons for their actions, or confess their guilt for the first time.

Others, however, use the opportunity as a final moment to have their say, cause a media furor or simply assert their control before it is taken away from them.

Below, read ten more of the weirdest last words uttered by condemned prisoners, from tongue-in-cheek sendoffs like that of James French to belligerent admonitions like that of Thomas J. Grasso.

1. George Appel, 1928, death by electrocution

Last Words: "Well, gentlemen, you are about to see a baked Appel."

Appel was a murderer of puns and one New York policeman.

2. Jimmy Glass, 1987, death by electrocution

Last Words: "I'd rather be fishing."

Glass was executed after escaping from jail and robbing and murdering an elderly couple.

3. George Engel, 1886, death by hanging

Last Words: "Hurrah for anarchy! This is the happiest moment of my life."

Engel was hanged for the Chicago Haymarket bombing, which killed seven police officers and at least four civilians.

4. James French, 1966, death by electrocution

Last Words: "How about this for a headline for tomorrow's paper? French Fries."

Already in prison for life, French was supposed to have been afraid to commit suicide even though he wanted to die. He killed his cellmate in order to receive the death penalty.

5. Carl Panzram, 1930, death by hanging

Last Words: “Hurry it up you Hoosier bastard! I could hang a dozen men while you’re screwing around.”

Panzram was an arsonist, burglar and serial killer responsible for the deaths of at least 22 people.

6. Edward Ellis, 1992, death by lethal injection

Last Words: "I just want everyone to know that the prosecutor and Bill Scott are sorry sons of bitches."

Ellis was linked to a series of murders known as the "bathtub slayings," where three women were found to have been robbed and strangled in their own bathtubs.

7. Thomas J. Grasso, 1995, death by lethal injection

Last Words: “I did not get my Spaghetti-O’s. I got spaghetti. I want the press to know this.”

Grasso was convicted of murder after strangling an 87 year-old woman to death on Christmas Eve with her own Christmas lights before stealing her TV and some $12 in cash.

8. Christopher Scott Emmett, 2008, death by lethal injection

Last Words: "Tell the governor he just lost my vote. Y'all hurry this along. I'm dying to get out of here."

Emmett was convicted in the robbery and murder of a co-worker.

9. Aileen Wuornos, 1992, death by lethal injection

“I’d just like to say I’m sailing with the Rock and I’ll be back like Independence Day with Jesus, June 6, like the movie, big mothership and all. I’ll be back.”

Wuornos, the inspiration behind the film "Monster," killed at least six men while working as a prostitute in Florida. She claimed that all her victims either either raped or intended to rape her.

10. Sean Flanagan, 1989, death by lethal injection

Last Words: "I love you."

Flanagan, a male prostitute who killed at least two gay men and threatened to continue killing if he was released, mouthed his last words to the district attorney who got him convicted before he died.

Well, it seems that you don't laugh on this photo... Where is your smile ?

Justice served :( Thanks to you great State of Texas :-* God bless Baby Karlos and his family :'( :-* Honor and peace to them all :-* :'(

Welcome to Hell rubbish Hernandez... >:( :D :P
