Canada urged to arrest and prosecute George W. Bush
« on: October 12, 2011, 03:24:52 PM »
Amnesty International today urged Canadian authorities to arrest and either prosecute
or extradite former US President George W. Bush for his role in torture,
ahead of his expected visit to Canada on 20 October.

“Canada is required by its international obligations to arrest and prosecute former President Bush
given his responsibility for crimes under international law including torture,” said Susan Lee,
Americas Director at Amnesty International.

“As the US authorities have, so far, failed to bring former President Bush to justice,
the international community must step in.  A failure by Canada to take action during his visit
would violate the UN Convention against Torture and demonstrate contempt for fundamental human rights.”

Amnesty International submitted a memorandum to the Canadian authorities on 21 September 2011 that makes a
substantial case for the former president’s legal responsibility for a series of human rights violations.

The violations took place during the CIA's secret detention programme between 2002 and 2009 –
and include torture and other cruel, inhuman and degrading-treatment and enforced disappearances.

While President, George W. Bush authorized the use of a number of “enhanced interrogation techniques”
against detainees held in the secret CIA program.

The former President later specifically admitted to authorizing the “waterboarding” of several
individuals whose subjection to this torture technique has been confirmed.

Detainees were subjected to waterboarding and a range of other “enhanced interrogation techniques” –
including being forced to stay for hours in painful positions and sleep deprivation  –
during the CIA’s secret detention program, set up under then-President Bush’s authorization.

The CIA Inspector General found that Zayn al Abidin Muhammed Husayn (known as Abu Zubaydah) and Khalid Sheikh
Mohammed were subjected, between them, to at least 266 applications of waterboarding while in detention between 2002 and 2003.

Amnesty International’s submission also highlights further evidence of torture and other crimes under
international law committed against detainees held under US military custody in Guantánamo, Afghanistan and Iraq.

“This is a crucial moment for Canada to demonstrate it is prepared to live up to its commitments and obligations
with respect to human rights,” said Susan Lee.

“Canada has been a leader in efforts to strengthen the international justice system and must now demonstrate
that when it comes to accountability for human rights violations, no one and no country is above international law.”

Then can we go after the French goverment for conspiracy and accessory charges for their financial relationships with Saddam?  Possibly charges of genocide since their financial dealings allowed Saddam to remain in power, thus allowing him to continue to kill his countrymen?  What's good for the goose....

Actually they are much worse because they are better funded and have had more years of practice at lying and telling half truths.
Sadly the media will always quote them in almost every DP story.

The news made me laugh actually, cause Amnesty International know for a fact that Canadian authorities will do nothing about that.
They just seek some pub on the back of everything and everyone. For them G.W Bush is more guilty than anyone on death row.
Let's send them all in their yard...

Funnier still, is to imagine supporters of amnesty international waving these kind of posters in Texas:

 < Save George W. Bush > < I am Troy Davis    I am George W. Bush >

Actually they are much worse because they are better funded and have had more years of practice at lying and telling half truths.
Sadly the media will always quote them in almost every DP story.

I agree 100% with that!  Amnesty International is a big money machine, using criminality for their own convenience. ($$$) They don't speak of cruelty and torture used by terrorists.
They don't talk about arresting them and prosecuting them..

I suspect that very many more Iraqi civilians have died since the second intervention than ever died under Saddam (discounting Iran/Iraq war).

But then I do not believe in interfering in other sovereign states unless they invade someone.

Amnesty International...A nice joke 8) I don't want to be nasty but there...

Oh, I have this picture for you all and you can see it with this link (the Belgian site of Amnesty International : http://www.amnestyinternational.be/doc/)

It represents Adolf Hitler, Mao Tse Toung, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, etc... and the text (in French) seems : "If you defends the death penalty, raise your hand".

So, if I understand these words, it seems that we are, supporters of the capital punishment, dictators and murderers  :o :o >:( >:( ???

What a bad comedy >:( What a disgusting circus >:( It makes me sick and angry >:(

SHAME ON YOU SCUMBAGS  :D :D :-\ :-\ (I am sorry to be vulgar but it is deserved)

Dear Madinka,

Thank you very much for the picture with Sister Liar :-* :-* Yes, YOU ROCK :-* :-*

Come'on Frenchy...that's a pretty high standard (an pretty convenient for a French person) to use for interfering in other sovereign states affairs?!  I'm by no means an advocate of the US being the world's policeman.  In fact, I personally feel that we should shut our doors and tell the entire world (yes, France included) to piss off that we're not aiding anyone anymore and that the ink has run out on the check-writing pen.  I would make exceptions of course to nations that actually DO treat us as their ally and friend.  But sometimes, when bad things are happening, it takes a strong countries to help out others.  We can all point fingers and cherry pick where we feel each of our respective countries are assisting and maybe shouldn't be, for example, I am sure by your comments that you did not agree with the invasion into Iraq.  However, how do you feel about Libya?  They haven't invaded anyone...
