A Hardin County grand jury has indicted a Kountze couple on capital murder charges in connection with the death of a 4-year-old girl.
District Attorney David Sheffield confirmed Tuesday the charges have been brought against Amanda Nichole Guidry, 30, and Jason Wade Delacerda, 34.
Sheffield said his office will be seeking the death penalty against Delacerda and that the option still is open on Guidry.
According to the Texas Penal Code, killing a child under 6 years old is considered capital murder.
Guidry's daughter, Breonna Nichole Loftin, died Aug. 17 at a Beaumont hospital, where an examination documented burn marks, bruises and signs of apparent sexual abuse. The actual cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Both Guidry and Delacerda are being held at the Hardin County Jail without bond, Sheffield said.

A Kountze couple has been charged with third-degree injury to a child in connection with the death of the woman's 4-year-old daughter.
Amanda Nichole Guidry, 30, and Jason Wade Delacerda, 34, who live in a mobile home park south of Kountze, are being held at the Hardin County jail, according to jail personnel. A $1.5 million bond has been set for Guidry, while Delacerda is being held on a $2 million bond.
The couple was arrested Thursday after the child died around 11 p.m. Wednesday at a local hospital. Sheriff Ed Cain said an autopsy showed the girl died of blunt force trauma to the head.
"We noticed numerous bruises and burn marks, old and new, all over this child," Cain said Thursday. "It's the worst case I've ever seen."
Investigators believe the child had been physically and sexually abused for months, according to Shari Pulliam, a spokeswoman for the local Child Protective Services department. Pulliam said the family did not have prior involvement with CPS.
Guidry does not have other children, she said.Previous reporting
Two people have been accused of causing bodily injury to a 4-year-old child in Hardin County.
A 30-year-old woman and her 34-year-old live-in boyfriend are in the Hardin County Jail awaiting an arraignment Friday. Hardin County Sheriff Ed Cain said that the woman is the child's mother. The couple lives in a mobile home park south of Kountze.
The sheriff's office received a call at about 11 p.m. Wednesday night about a child brought to an area hospital who was dead.
Cain said that after talking to doctors and looking at X-rays and autopsy reports this morning, it was concluded that the child died of blunt trauma to the head.
"We noticed numerous bruises and burn marks, old and new, all over this child," Cain said. "It's the worst case I've ever seen."
The charges could be changed by the district attorney's office as the investigation progresses, Cain said.
