Good time to buy in the US?
« on: January 18, 2011, 05:12:33 AM »
I've been following house prices and exchanges for a while, looking mostly at Europe to be fair, but it seems there are a few bargains to be had in the states now.

I'm looking for somewhere to rent out as a holiday home - so maybe Orlando area.

For you guys who live in the US, what are your thoughts?  Exchange as it stands today is about $1.60 to the £1

I have a green card if that helps!  (although it's probably expired by now)

Orlando has thousands of holiday homes and many companies that manage those homes for foreigners such as yourself.  I am a website developer and I developed 2 websites for 2 separate property management companies. If you are seriously interested I can put you in touch with them and they can probably tell you what the market is like right now for those types of homes.

I'd really appreciate that Pam.

For instance, a quick look shows properties such as these:

or

They seem too be to cheap to be true!
You need to pay £80k + ($130k) for anything similar over here.

Those don't appear to be too cheap to be true...  what it looks like to me is a co-op community, very similar to a condo....     Florida real estate is still reasonably priced compared to other parts of the country - although in some parts of Florida, particularly along the coastlines it's rather high.  I will send you their information in just a little bit, but remember, these companies are not real estates, they are property management companies, they handle the renting for homeowners such as you would be, but, I am definite both could give you an accurate description of what the market is like right now...

Funny you should mention this, I was considering doing the same thing in the Fort Myers area... I have a friend who has done it and is quite happy, and I would like to hear your experiences with this!!!
