New Victim Introduction

This is my first time here and my first post.  I am the parent of a murder victim and I belong to a victims group of homicide victims.  I know many, many victims of homicide.  There is not one parent or relative of our group that is against the death penalty.  It makes me sick to hear when a sentence has been reduced or overturned.  I am also shocked when I see relatives of victims of homicide sign petitions to STOP the death penalty, because I know the real victims who attend our meetings and they are not for abolishing the death penalty.  I think it's clearly political and they are forgetting about the victims.  The victims are forgotten and their rights are denied.  I am glad I found this forum.

I hope I don't offend anyone, but I think they screwed up when they got rid of the electric chair.   Some of these people love prison life.  Wish I

could change that, but I know no matter how hard I try it will never happen.   I do believe our laws with all of the appeals and lengthy time

periods is a broken system.  Then don't forget about the contractors at the prison.  They are making a lot of money off prison.

I agree that they shouldn't have got rid of the electric chair as it would serve as a deterrent based on how one views it as painful. I hope that we can be of great help to you  :-*

My reason for supporting the death penalty? A murderer has less of a right to live than his victim and already presents a danger while incarcerated for life. They have nothing to lose when the most they can get is Life in prison without parole.

I have read prison personnel statements that many offenders, when it comes right down to it, are no longer afraid of the death penalty via lethal injection.  They just silp away in sleep.  I am all in favor of making them "ride the lightning" but my personal preference is a stout length of rope!

Jeffco, welcome to the forum and condolences on your loss. As a parent I hate to know what you have been through.

It is unlikely you will offend anybody here unless you start pushing for the re-implementation of hanging, drawing and quartering. Even then, I doubt anybody is going to complain  ;)
