James W. Vandivner
Convicted and Sentenced to Death in the 2004 Murder of Michelle Cable by grabbing her by the hair and shooting her in the head.

Shawn Walker
Convicted of the 1991 Murders of 26-year-old Ricardo Thomas, had apparently been shot in the head while sleeping. He was still in the fetal position when the body was discovered on a couch in the southwest Philadelphia house of Lisa Johnson, 22, who had been shot in the head as she lay on another couch. Shawn T. Walker, 20, had walked into the Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute around noon with the story that he had shot two people that morning. He told doctors that he had gone into a relative's medicine chest, drunk peroxide and taken about 20 pills -- he didn't know what kind. Then he tried to cut his wrists with a razor, but stopped after making a small scratch. At 8:30 P.M., after the hospital released him, the police picked him up and brought him to headquarters.

Shonda Walter
Date of crime: 3/25/2003
Walter killed her neighbor, James Sementelli, 83, as part of a gang initiation and robbery. Walter slashed Sementelli 66 times with a 10-inch hatchet as he begged for his life. Witnesses also said that during the killing, she stopped to say the Lord's Prayer, carved a cross in the victim's stomach as he was dying, watched television, and ate ice cream. She then took $510 and Sementelli's car.

Anthony Washington
In October 1994, Washington was sentenced to death for the first-degree murder of an unarmed supermarket security guard, Tracey Lawson, during a robbery. Washington was formally sentenced on Dec. 9, 2004.

Vinson Washington
Convicted in the 1993 robbery/murder of Zachary Jackson. Washington ordered Jackson out of his car at gunpoint and demanded money. Jackson refused, and Washingti shot him in the legs and torso four times. Washingto retrieved another gun from his car and when Jackson continued to refuse his demand for money, Washinton fatally shot Jackson one more time in the abdomen.

Gerald Watkins
Watkins received three separate death sentences for killing his ex-girlfriend, her son and Watkins' infant daughter July 20, 1994.

Herbert Watson
Was sentenced to die in 1984 for killing his former girlfriend.

John Wayne
John Wayne was convicted of murder in the first degree and criminal conspiracy to kill Kenneth Rankine. The evidence presented at trial revealed the shooting of Kenneth  Rankine on the night of August 12, 1994.

Ronald Lee Weiss
Convicted and sentenced to death for clubbing a teen-age girl to death then hiding the body so well that it went undiscovered for five months. Barbara Bruzda, a 16-year-old junior at Saltsburg High School, disappeared in October 1978, the night she was seen playing pool with Weiss inside Joe's Place, the Bruzda family's bar in Tunnelton, a village in Indiana County, 35 miles east of Pittsburgh.
A hiker found her body along a back road, badly decomposed and wrapped in a quilt.

Robert Wharton
The murders of Bradley Hart and his wife Fern were the culmination of a series of crimes committed by Appellant and his cohorts against the Hart family in retribution for a dispute over the quality of home improvement work Appellant performed in the summer of 1983 at the Harts' residence and at a radio station owned by Mr. Hart's father, the Reverend Samuel Hart. When Mr. Hart refused to pay Appellant's employer for the work, Appellant complained bitterly and blamed Bradley Hart for his lost wages. He vowed to make the Hart family pay.

Ernest Wholaver Jr.
Date of crime: 12/24/02
Wholaver was estranged from his wife Jean, and she had a protective order against him. His two daughters (Victoria, age 20, and Elizabeth, age 15) had accused him of sexually abusing them for many years, and were within weeks of the trial where they would testify against him. Wholaver had his brother drive him to his wife's house (his brother pleaded guilty to three counts of third-degree murder for his role in the crime, and testified against Ernest). Ernest burglarized the home, shooting and killing Jean, Victoria, and Elizabeth. He killed Victoria while she was holding her infant daughter. The police found the infant alive by her mother's body the next day. Wholaver was also convicted of attempting to hire a hit man from jail to kill Victoria's ex-boyfriend and frame him for the crime by leaving a suicide note confessing to the crime. In defense,

Christopher Williams
Willimas was charged with murder and related offenses in connection with the drug relate 1989 killings of Gavin Anderson, Kevin Anderson (collectively, "the Anderson brothers"), and Otis Reynolds. The jury found Williams guilty of three counts of first degree murder, three counts of robbery, three counts of criminal conspiracy, corrupt organizations, Williams  was tried jointly with his co-conspirators, Rick Bennett ("Bennett") and Theopolis Wilson ("Wilson"). and possessing an instrument of crime.

Craig Williams
Sentenced to death for the April 1, 1987 murder of Gordon Russel. As Williams tried to shoot his girlfriend Erica Riggins he hit Russel accidently.

Roy L. Williams
January 27, 1988, shortly after telling companions that, for no apparent reason, he would kill the first white man that he saw, Roy L. Williams ("Williams") shot
and killed James McDonnell, a caucasian male who was a stranger to him. Williams then fled to Massachusetts, where he committed another criminal homicide and other violent crimes prior to being captured and returned to Philadelphia for trial on charges of first degree murder and related offenses pertaining to the killing of Mr. McDonnell.

Terrance Williams
In February 1986, Terrence Williams was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to die for senselessly murdering Amos Norwood during a robbery. Williams was formally sentenced on July 1, 1987. Williams had already been convicted of murder and robbery in two separate cases at the time of his 1986 trial. From appellate record: At approximately 1:00 a.m. on December 25, 1982, Williams and a co-defendant broke into an elderly couple's home in the West Mount Airy section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, robbed them at gunpoint, and then stole their car. Williams was a few months shy of his seventeenth birthday. He was certified for trial as an adult, convicted of two counts each of robbery, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, and simple assault, and one count each of burglary, criminal conspiracy, theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to 12 to 25 years imprisonment. While Williams was awaiting trial in the robbery, he murdered Herbert Hamilton. While he was on bail awaiting sentencing for the robbery, he murdered Amos Norwood. He was sentenced to death in the Norwood murder case, and the convictions in the robbery case and the one involving Herbert Hamilton were used as aggravating circumstances to secure that sentence.

Zachary Wilson
In January 1988, Wilson was convicted and sentenced to die for the 1981 shooting of Jamie Lamb in a Philadelphia bar, in revenge for Lamb's killing of a relative of Wilson's. Wilson was formally sentenced on January 25, 1988.

William Wright
Convicted of killing James Mowery on Thanksgiving Day, 1998.
