August 19, 2009Rounds appoints Jackley attorney generalGov. Mike Rounds said today that he has appointed Marty Jackley of Sioux Falls as the state's new attorney general.The appointment is effective at noon on Sept. 4, coinciding with the resignation of Attorney General Larry Long. Rounds appointed Long a judge in the Second Judicial District, which includes Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties. He will take the oath of office for that job on Sept. 4.Jackley, who received a law degree from the University of South Dakota in 1995, has been the U.S. attorney in South Dakota since 2006. He previously was a partner in a Rapid City law firm and served as a special assistant to the state attorney general from 2001-2005.Read more in Thursday's Argus Leader.
