A bill to repeal the death penalty in South Dakota will again be considered by state lawmakers this year. Senate Bill 94 was introduced by a group of nine state senators and 15 state representatives on January 26, 2016. The bill has been referred to the Senate State Affairs Committee, which has not scheduled a hearing on the bill.  All bills and resolutions that are introduced in South Dakota are guaranteed to get at least one public hearing before one of the standing committees.  However, the committee has several choices as far as acting on the bill goes. Following testimony, the committee will discuss the bill and then vote whether or not to vote it out of committee and back onto the floor for a final vote.
