Jurors began punishment deliberations Thursday, but after eight-and-a-half hours of discussion, could not reach a decision on whether Thuesen should be sentenced to death or life without the possibility of parole. The eight women and four men were sequestered Thursday night at a Bryan-area hotel. They returned at 8:30 a.m. Friday to resume deliberations and reached a decision at around 10 a.m. After Thuesen was sentenced, the parents of the murdered students addressed him in a victim impact statement, saying, "You disgraced our Lord and creator. Ruining the lives of friends and families was your goal and you were a success. You took away sweet, loving kind people with bright futures." "You subjected good people to sights and sounds that no person should be subjected to, including the jury, the court," Prosecutors suggested Thuesen was jealous after seeing Rachel Joiner with another former boyfriend.
