Bennie Adams
Bennie L. Adams is sentenced to die for the 1985 murder of Gina Tenney. Tenney, a 19-year-old Youngstown State University student, who was Adams' upstairs neighbor in an Ohio Avenue duplex, died by strangulation on Dec. 29, 1985. Her frozen body was found floating in the Mahoning River near West Avenue the following day. Adams, 51, was indicted in the case last year (2008) after a DNA match was found in evidence police had preserved for 22 years.

Sidney Cornwell
During the early morning hours of June 11, 1996, defendant-appellant, Sidney Cornwell, and some associates who belonged to a neighborhood gang in Youngstown drove up to an apartment building on Oak Park Lane with the intention of shooting a rival gang member. When the intended victim was not seen, Cornwell opened fire on the occupants of an apartment, killing a three-year-old child and wounding three adults. Cornwell was subsequently convicted of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder, and sentenced to death. On the afternoon of the previous day, Cornwell and other members or associates of the "Crips" gang had been involved in a shootout with members of the "Bloods" gang on Elm Street at New York Avenue in Youngstown.

Jessie James Cowans
On 8/29/96, Jessie Cowans murdered a 69-year-old woman in the course of burglarizing and robbing her home on Lindale-Mt. Holly Street in Amelia. Cowans used the strap of the woman's purse to strangle her. Cowans had been released on parole a second time in May 1996 for committing a prior murder and robbery.

Donald L. Craig
On February 28, 1996, at around 6:00 p.m., 12-year-old Roseanna Davenport was walking to her home in Akron, Ohio. Along the way, appellant Donald Craig abducted her, then raped and murdered her. Davenport's body was discovered in the basement of a vacant duplex in Akron on March 5, 1996.  Police did not solve this murder for six years. In April 2002, DNA testing identified Craig as Davenport's murderer. Subsequently, Craig was tried and convicted of aggravated murder and sentenced to death.
