The Crime: On 8/5/91, John Alba forced his way into an apartment where his wife was staying with a friend and shot her repeatedly with a .22 caliber pistol. Wendy Alba, 28, died at the scene. Alba also shot an apartment resident who survived.
Sentenced to Death 5/92.


News:

Convicted killer John Alba has been executed for barging into a suburban Dallas apartment almost 19 years ago and fatally shooting his estranged wife while she was trying to hide from him.

The 54-year-old Alba Tuesday evening became be the 11th prisoner executed this year in Texas, the nation's busiest death penalty state. Another execution is set for next week.

Testimony at his trial showed Alba and his 28-year-old wife, Wendy, had a rocky marriage marked by alcohol abuse, infidelity and repeated visits from police responding to domestic violence calls. She had taken shelter at a neighbor's apartment when she was murdered.

The lethal injection was carried out after the U.S. Supreme Court refused an appeal from Alba. Alba was pronounced dead at 6:19pm.

He also addressed his son and daughter who watched through a window. "Just tell everyone I love them," he said. "Y'all will be OK. I will too. "OK, warden," he added. "Do it!"
